Peter W. Thomson is our Musical Director
Peter is a hugely experienced singer, musician and conductor.
After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD), Peter sang major operatic roles in La Boheme, Carmen, Barber of Seville and The Vanishing Bridegroom. He also performed in world premieres which included the Wolf of Badenoch for Scottish Opera and Tonrak which he performed in The Banff Arts Centre, Alberta. His professional recordings include The Martyrdom of St Magnus with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has performed in all the UK’s major opera houses including The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Peter has also performed extensively for various choral societies throughout Scotland, performing works which include Messiah, Elijah, Dream of Gerontious and the requiems by Verdi, Faure, Durufle and Mozart.
As well as opera, he is a renowned song-singer encompassing Operetta, Songs from West End shows, Scots songs and English song.
Peter has also taught singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD) and coached singers of The National Boys’ Choir of Scotland.
Peter retired as Head of the Music Faculty and Director of Music at St George’s School in Edinburgh and spends his time teaching singing, piano, conducting the Markinch Community Choir and Kirkaldy Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
Peter is delighted to be working with Cupar Choral as their Musical Director.
