Bruce Fraser has a vast experience of conducting vocal and instrumental groups in schools and in the community. As Head of Music at Buckhaven High School he was privileged to work with many outstanding youngsters over many years. He conducted Anstruther Philharmonic Society, Cupar Amateur Musical Society and is delighted to be involved with Cupar Choral Society this season. He was really pleased with the stirring performance of the Creation in December given by the Choral, when he was their interim Musical Director and is looking forward to working with the choir in his new permanent position.
Bruce began his musical career in the Telefis Eirrann Symphony Orchestra, before moving to Fife with his wife, Pat, to combine teaching and free lance playing on the Trombone. In fact, one of his first local “gigs” was playing in a Mozart Requiem with Cupar Choral, and many more thereafter.
His main conducting commitments have been with Brass and Wind Bands and he has served as conductor to most of the Fife bands.
After many satisfying years of teaching, Bruce was keen to work as a full time composer, and he took the plunge in 2006 and is now enjoying thoroughly working on a large number of composing projects, the latest being his Tuba Concerto, commissioned by renowned Tuba player, James Gourlay, who performed the concerto recently with the Fife Youth Orchestra.
Bruce and Pat live in Kingskettle where they run their company Lomond Music, and Bruce composes for an array of publishers around the world.
